Emma Mackey Cast In J.J. Abrams’ new film; Shooting Early 2025.

THR reports that Emma Mackey has nabbed the female lead in J.J. Abrams’ untitled feature set at Warner Bros. The British actress best known for her work in Netflix’s “Sex Education” joins Glen Powell and Jenna Ortega on the call sheet in what is described as being a trifecta of leads.

Abrams wrote the script for the feature whose plot is under wraps, but there were rumors and speculations about the story. Some speculated it involved time-travel, but THR’s sources say that is not the case. The Hot Mic recently revealed that Abrams’ film is an 80’s throwback, might be inspired by “The Last Starfighter” and about “an author of popular fantasy novels who reveals that the mythical world he’s known for creating is actually real, sending Powell’s character on a quest.”

Powell joined the project in May. and after 6 months of development, the film is finally ready to go before cameras early next year.

Dwayne Johnson also recently posted on Instagram that he was working on a project with Abrams. Whether he is joining this project or another one is not confirmed yet.

As for Mackey, she has a 20th Century Studios all-star comedy on her schedule titled “Ella McCay”, written and directed by Jim Brooks and starring Jamie Lee Curtis, Woody Harrelson, Ayo Edebiri, Kumail Nanjiani, Rebecca Hall and Jack Lowden.
