Zack Snyder To Write And Direct LAPD Action-Thriller for Netflix.

Zack Snyder released his two-part epic sci-fi saga “Rebel Moon Part: I & II” on Netflix to mixed reviews. But the “Justice League” director is reteaming with Netflix for a new project. This one is an untitled action movie centered on the Los Angeles Police Department. Snyder will direct the feature and co-write it with Kurt Johnstad, his frequent collaborator (300, Rebel Moon).

The Hollywood Reporter called it “Snyder’s first truly grounded feature as it won’t be populated by laser-shooting rebels, brain-eating zombies, bone-breaking caped crusaders or limb-severing Spartans that have made up the oeuvre of the popular filmmaker. But it promises to be just as dramatic, thematically-weighty and action-packed.”

Details about the project are under wraps, but the action thriller is being described as being set in the high-stakes world of life and death and centered on an elite LAPD unit that is relentlessly confronted with the unforgiven collision of law and morality.

The new project will mark the fourth feature Snyder will direct for Netflix, after “Rebel Moon”, Rebel Moon- Part Two: The Scargiver” and “Army Of The Dead”. His production company Stone Quarry, which he runs with Wesley Coller and his wife and partner Deborah Snyder also produced “Army of The Dead” prequel “Army of Thieves” and animated series “Twilight Of The Gods” for the streamer.

It will be interesting to see Snyder make a "grounded" and "smaller" film, which he hasn’t done since his 2004 debut “Dawn of the Dead”. Although I don’t think the action-thriller LAPD film with Netflix will be on any small scale. It just feels “regular” and “small” when compared to his other films.

Snyder also recently revealed in an interview with Reel Blend that he “wants his next project to be smaller in scale to ‘Rebel Moon’ and to not have any VFX”, which is something he’s been wanting to do for some time.

While the potential third “Rebel Moon” film is on hold at Netflix (given the timid response to the first two parts), Snyder was also working on a UFC movie. which is in development and isn’t planned to be on Netflix. Zach Baylin (“King Richard”) co-wrote the screenplay with Snyder. It’s planned as a theatrical film, with UFC — including it’s president, Dana White being directly involved.

The Hollywood Reported first reported on the story.
