‘Forbidden Planet’ Remake Set At Warner Bros.
Warner Bros. has made a deal to remake Fred M. Wilcox’s 1956 sci-fi cult classic “Forbidden Planet”. The film will be written by comic book and screenwriter Brian K. Vaughan, and will be produced by former studio chief Emma Watts.
No directors or actors are currently announced. Loosely based on Shakespeare’s “The Tempest”, Wilcox’s film was set in the 23rd century, where a starship arrives at a distant planet to solve the mystery of what happened to another starship sent 20 years prior. One of that original ship’s scientists, Dr. Edward Morbius (played by Walter Pidgeon), warns them not to land for safety reasons, but the crew does so anyway.
‘Forbidden Planet’ was a very underrated movie, that never saw a big-screen remake in 70 years since it’s release. Although, James Cameron reportedly once considered it, but couldn’t make it happen because the rights were complicated and difficult to untangle. WB. and Watts finally got that major obstacle out of the way it seems.
