‘Outcome’ by Jonah Hill.
Comedy legend Jonah Hill is back in the director’s chair with his Hollywood-set dark comedy “Outcome”. Produced and distributed by Apple TV+. Keanu Reeves, Cameron Diaz and Matt Bomer star in the film. The script was co-written by Jonah Hill and Ezra Woods. Hill will star and also co-produce the pic with Matt Dines and Ali Goodwin.
Keanu Reeves (John Wick) was already set to star in the film along side Jonah Hill (Superbad, War Dogs). In March 2024, Cameron Diaz (Bad Teacher, The Mask) and Matt Bomer (Maestro, The Nice Guys) joined the cast. In April, Hill rounded out the cast with Susan Lucci, David Spade (Grown Ups, The Do-over), Laverne Cox, Kaia Gerber (Bottoms), Roy Wood Jr. (“Confess, Fletch”), Atsuko Okatsuka and Ivy Wolk
Laverne Cox revealed her role as “Virginia”, and stated her involvement with Reeves in “one big scene”, Likening it to a “a one-act play within the film”.
Synopsis: Reef Hawk (Reeves) is an actor who has been sober for five years. He has taken a break from acting to build his new home, and he takes pride in his progress in life. However, when he receives a call from his crisis lawyer Ira Slitz, who reveals that someone is blackmailing him with a video of questionable content, his life is turned upside-down. Reef then sets out to make amends with those who he has wronged in the past to figure out who the blackmailer is.
Cameron Diaz recently came out of her 10 year retirement to star with Jamie Foxx in the upcoming Netflix comedy “Back in Action”, which is being released later this year. This will also mark the first time Diaz and Reeves have appeared in a film together since 1996’s “Feeling Minnesota”.
Hill co-wrote the script with first-time screenwriter Ezra Woods.
It was announced in April 2023, that Apple TV+ had acquired the film in a competitive situation, which was to be directed by Hill, while Keanu Reeves was in negotiations at that point to star in the film.
Principal photography was scheduled to begin in March 2024 in Los Angeles, and expected to wrap in May.
“Outcome” marks the latest collaboration for Hill and Apple Original Films, who are also developing a ‘Grateful Dead’ biopic with Martin Scorsese’s Sikelia Productions, to be directed by Scorsese, with Hill starring and producing. the film is currently in development.
Hill last directed the 2018 skateboard drama “Mid 90s” for A24. It garnered good reviews, with the film being an authentic coming-of-age movie. It’ll be interesting to see what Hill has in store with this next film which seems to be veering far away from the slice-of-life approach of “Mid90s”.
