Werner Herzog to direct animated film “The Twilight World”

Werner Herzog is set to direct his first animated feature. “The Twilight Zone” is based on Herzog’s own best-selling novel. The novel tells the story of Japanese intelligence officer Hiro Onoda who, after the end of WWII, refused to surrender and continued to fight a personal, fictitious war in the jungles of Philippines, for thirty years. the film is described as part fictionalized history, part drama and part dream log.

Herzog is teaming with writers Tekkon Kinkreet’s Michael Arias for the film. The runtime for “The Twilight Zone” clocks in at 85 minutes. The last fiction Herzog directed was 2019’s “Family Romance, LLC”. Since 1968, Werner Herzog has directed 20 fiction feature films and 34 documentary feature films. Some of his notable works include “Aguirre The Wrath of God”, “Lessons of Darkness” and “Grizzly Man”.

French filmmaker Arthur Harari already directed an excellent film on the topic — 2021’s “Onoda”.
