"Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-verse" Troubles: Sony scrapped the footage and rewrote the entire script.

Sony’s third film in the “Spider-verse” franchise — “Beyond The Spider-verse” was initially supposed to be released in March 2024, but it was then removed from the schedule.

Back in September, there was a report by Jeff Sneider that stated that Sony had scrapped most of the “Beyond the Spider-verse” for ‘creative reasons’. and given the detailed animation effort it requires, the movie was unlikely to release before 2027.

The creative team working on the animated feature was apparently “relieved” by the scraping, as they will now have more time to work on the sequel.

Spider-verse composer Daniel Pemberton and franchise creator Christopher Miller quickly denied the report as “not particularly accurate” and stated “nothing has been scrapped”.

Until now, Brandon Davis is reporting that Sony rewrote the entire script for the third part. The studio is said to be undecided on the film’s ending.

There were also reels of animated footage that had to be scrapped because of this creative decision.

One other notable thing that occurred, was the recent clash between creative duo Phil Lors and Chris Miller and Sony over the “Spider-noir” series starring Nicholas Cage, which is in production right now set over at Amazon Prime. Notably on the budget for the show.

The duo had signed a five-year, nine-figure deal with the studio in 2019, with the idea being that they'd oversee a slate of Spider-Man projects. Sony ended up not renewing their contract because of the clash.

There were also reports of Lord and Miller's rigorous style of management while overseeing “Across the Spider-verse”. Crew members — ranging from artists to production executives who had worked anywhere from five to a dozen years in the animation business — described the process of making the $150M Sony project as “uniquely arduous, involving a relentless kind of revisionism” and “death by a thousand paper cuts.”

Phil and Miller are no doubt one of the most creative duos working. If not for them, there wouldn't have been such an excellent animated Spider-Man films. They recently wrapped “Project Hail Mary” starring Ryan Gosling. Their first directorial effort since exiting Lucas film's “Solo”.
