Premise: The film is about a new mother in the French countryside who develops postpartum depression and enters psychosis as her marriage breaks down.
In November 2022, Jennifer Lawrence confirmed she would star in an adaptation of Ariana Harwicz’s novel “Die, My Love” with Lynne Ramsay directing from a screenplay she co-wrote with playwright Enda Walsh. In July 2024, Pattinson was in talks to join the film, produced by Martin Scorsese and Andrea Calderwell alongside the Excellent Cadaver team of Lawrence and Justin Ciarrocci. Black Label Media are financing the project.
In April, Ramsay said she was writing music with George Vjestica, for which Lawrence may sing.
Pattinson’s been on quite a run that started after landing a starring role in Christopher Nolan’s “Tenet”. He followed that by landing the starring role in Matt Reeves’ “The Batman”. Warner Bros. was so impressed with Pattinson’s work in that film that they tapped him to star in Parasite director Bong Joon Ho’s “Mickey 17”, which releases next year. He is also reportedly set to star in the “Possession” remake, that he and “Smile” director Parker Finn are partnering up on.
Ramsay recently admitted at the Icelandic Film Centre, that she actually has four scripts ready to shoot. There’s the ones already mentioned (Die, My Love, Stone Mattress) and also “Polaris”, starring couple Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara. The filmmaker also co-wrote another project, titled “Hierarchies”, but no further details were given about that one.
Production on the film began in and around Calgary, Canada on August 19, 2024, and wrapped on October 16, 2024. Cinematographer Seamus McGarvey (Avengers, The Accountant) shot the film in 35mm and 1.33:1 Academy ratio, taking inspirations from Roman Polanski’s “Repulsion” (1956) and “Rosemary’s Baby” (1968).
This will be Ramsay’s first film in over 7 years. She’s only directed four films during the course of her 24-year career; “Ratcatcher”, “Morvern Callar”, “We Need To Talk About Kevin” and “You Were Never Really Here”.
