Luca Guadagnino To Direct DCU’s “Sgt. Rock”, Daniel Craig To Star.
This is a surprising team-up in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DCU. Deadline has confirmed the rumors that were going around online these past few days, Luca Guadagnino (Challengers) is joining the DCU with “Sgt. Rock” and his “Queer” film star Daniel Craig is set to join him to play the titular role. Mixing arthouse cinema with comic book filmmaking will be very exciting to see.
Guadagnino’s “Challengers” screenwriter Justin Kuritzkes has penned the screenplay. And surprisingly, out of the many projects Luca has in development right now, Deadline is stating he will shoot this one as his next film.
In the 80’s, producer Joel Silver wanted Arnold Schwarzenegger to star in a ‘Sgt. Rock’ film. Then, later, Quentin Tarantino was offered to direct his own version, with David Webb scripting. Here’s Tarantino talking about the project;
“There’s a really good script that David Webb wrote for ‘Sgt. Rock’ that I still think about doing that from time to time […] I don’t think I will, but I think it’s a really magnificent script and I would do a good job with it.”
Guadagnino and Craig just premiered their new film “Queer”. Luca also recently wrapped “After The Hunt”, starring Julia Roberts. There is also “Separate Rooms” that he has to film, starring Josh O’Connor and Lea Seydoux. His recently announced unnecessary “American Psycho” remake probably won’t go into production until 2026. hopefully it gets shelved like his “Scarface” remake.
