Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning Trailer Released.
There had been rumors in the recent weeks about Paramount dropping a trailer for the much-awaited Mission Impossible 8 film. And finally, Paramount has dropped an official trailer (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NOhDyUmT9z0) and the title- “Mission Impossible: Final Reckoning”. This could potentially be the final Mission Impossible film, there is no official announcement but the studio is building it up to be like a final mission for Ethan Hunt. The film releases on May 23, 2025.
The filming was plagued by delays and had an 18 month production, including a delay due to a malfunction while filming with a $25 million submarine and ended up ballooning the final budget to around $400 million. But that doesn’t matter because there is a big and die-hard fanbase for Cruise’s mission films, and the franchise itself has been one of the most consistent in Hollywood, financially and commercially, raising the stakes with every movie.
The Synopsis is very cryptic: “Our lives are the sum of our choices”. The film is a follow-up to 2023’s “Dead Reckoning”, and was also originally titled “Dead Reckoning Part II” before the studio renamed it.
Paramount has shown interest in promoting the 8th film as “the final entry” in the franchise as a way of boosting audience interest — Cruise has reportedly pushed back on this plan and has told the studio not to promote it as such. Maybe he wants to leave the door open for a potential comeback for Ethan Hunt in the future.
In addition to Cruise, ‘Final Reckoning’ brings back Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Vanessa Kirby, Esai Morales, Pom Klementieff, Henry Czerny and Shea Whigham from the previous film. Angela Bassett is also back, and reprises her role as CIA Director Erika Sloane from 2018’s ‘Mission Impossible: Fallout’. New additions to the cast are Holt McCallany (Mindhunter), Janet McTeer (Ozark), Nick Offerman (Civil War) and Hannah Waddingham (Ted Lasso).
