Paul King confirms ‘Wonka 2’ is happening.
Earlier in the year, Warner Bros. announced a new addition to their calendar, an ‘UNTITLED WB FAMILY SEQUEL’ dated for December 17, 2027. Many trades believed that this mysterious family sequel could be the ‘Wonka’ sequel.
Last year, ‘Wonka’ hit the theatres on December 15 and the potential sequel seems to share the same week in December as it’s targeted release date.
Last week, during an interview with HeyUGuys at the “Paddington In Peru” premiere, ‘Wonka’ director Paul King confirmed that the sequel is indeed in development and that the script is currently being written. “we’ve got about half of a draft. We’ve got a story that we like and we know where we want to take him”
Warner Bros. released ‘Wonka’ last December, and it was a huge hit for the studio at the box office as well as with the audience, racking up a total of $632 million at the worldwide box office. A few months ago King told ComicBook, that another chapter was “definitely something [they’re] thinking about.”
King’s prequel to Roald Dahl’s 1964 novel “Charlie And The Chocolate Factory” starred Timothee Chalamet in the titular role. the ensemble cast also included Keegan Michael-Key, Olivia Colman, Sally Hawkins, Rowan Atkinson, and Hugh Grant as an Oompa-Loompa.
