Michael Mann finishing “Heat 2” script; Wants to direct Vietnam war movie “Hue 1968” next.
During a conversation at the ongoing Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea Film Festival, Michael Mann gave an update about his sequel to “Heat”. Mann stated that he is getting close to completing his screenplay for the prequel/sequel. ‘Heat 2’ is based on Mann’s own bestselling novel, and rumored cast includes Adam Driver and Austin Butler.
Mann additionally said that after making “Heat 2”, he wants to direct his long-gestating film about the 1968 Battle of Hue, one of the bloodiest events in the Vietnam war in which the forces of South Vietnam and U.S troops recaptured the city of Hue over one month of brutal urban fighting.
Mann had previously expressed interest in the Vietnam-set project with Uproxx. Based on Mark Bowden’s “Hue 1968”, about the war’s turning-point Tet Offensive. There were also reports of it being turned into a 10-episode series for FX.
