Jeremy Allen White joins “The Mandalorian & Grogu” movie; To Play Jabba The Hutt’s son.

There’s a surprising report coming out today (via The InSneider), Jon Favreau’s “The Mandalorian & Grogu” film has added “The Bear” star Jeremy Allen White in the role of audience favorite Jabba The Hutt’s son, Rotta the Hutt. InSneider also states that it’s a “notably sized role; no cameo here”.

Its interesting because the big-fat intergalactic crime boss Jabba doesn’t have any human sons, if Favreau decides to create one, then that’ll be a first. Most are assuming White is voicing the character, or most likely play it in a prosthetic costume. Relatives of Jabba the Hutt have appeared throughout ‘Star Wars’ series (“Book of Boba Fett) and movies like “Episode 1: The Phantom Menace”.

White joins Pedro Pascal, who plays Mando, and “Aliens” actress Sigourney Weaver. Jon Favreau is directing and wrote the script with Dave Filoni. the movie releases on May 22, 2026.

Favreau and Filoni recently dropped footage from the movie back at D23 in August. That footage showed off Babu Frick returning, and a snowy planet that looked a lot like Hoth from 1980s “Empire Strikes Back”, complete with huge AT-ATs stomping around.

There are at least 6 features in development at Lucasfilms in the Star Wars universe, from directors James Mangold, Taika Waititi, Shawn Levy and Donald Grover. Lucasfilm recently hired Simon Kinberg to oversee the next “phase” of Star Wars movies. But “The Mandalorian & Grogu” is set to be the first one of them to release.
