Lupita Nyong’o to star in Christopher Nolan’s new film.

The Hollywood Reporter reported this morning that Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong’o is the latest to join the ever-growing star cast for Christopher Nolan’s next film set up at Universal.

Lupita joins a cast that already includes Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway and Zendaya (more on her down below). THR also states that of all the rumors about the plot being reported by news sites are all wrong and that no one has come close to nailing Nolan’s real idea regarding the story. Nolan’s new film is more shrouded and kept under wraps than his other projects. We’ll just have to wait some more time to know what’s written on that famous red-page script.

Nolan reportedly started writing the script for his new film back in March, right after “Oppenheimer” triumphed at the Oscars. Although, there are some theories about the new project. As many people have pointed out, Nolan usually does a modern-times/futuristic project after a historical project; “Interstellar” (2014) — “Dunkirk” (2017), “Tenet” (2020) — “Oppenheimer” (2023). This could mean nothing, or this could mean his next film is set in modern/futuristic times.

Nolan is writing and directing the film, and producing with his wife & partner Emma Thomas under their SYNCOPY banner. Universal has set a release date of July 17, 2026. An early 2025 shoot is planned.

Update regarding Zendaya’s role: According to Jeff Sneider’s The InSneider Report, Zendaya is reportedly set to appear for “just a few minutes” in Nolan’s untitled film, with her character being “little more than a cameo”. This is not surprising given Zendaya’s packed schedule. She’s currently filming “The Drama” alongside Robert Pattinson in Boston, Next year she will also join the production of “Dune: Messiah”, “Spider-Man 4” and “Euphoria Season 3” - whenever that begins filming.
