Finn Wolfhard & ‘Saturday Night’ director Jason Reitman reteam on ‘Idle Hands’ remake at Sony.

Finn Wolfhard and Billy Bryk have signed on to write a reimagining of the 1999 horror comedy ‘Idle Hands’ for Sony Pictures that Jason Reitman will produce.

Wolfhard and Bryk are also eyed to co-direct the remake, following the sale of their Toronto Film Festival hit “Hell of a Summer”, which they co-wrote, co-directed, co-starred in and produced. In August, Neon acquired “Hell of a Summer”.

‘Idle Hands’ marks a reteaming for the duo and Reitman and the studio. They worked on two “Ghostbuster” films and the recently released “Saturday Night” for Sony Pictures.

The original film starred Devon Sawa and Jessica Alba, and released in 1999. the story centers on a teenage slacker whos hands become possesed with murderous intent. Finn and Bryk are committed to breathing a new life into the teen movie and keeping it authentic to the demographic. During TIFF 2023, Wolfhard told Variety that “our No. 1 conversation was how annoying it is to see new teen movies and how badly our age group is represented”.
